Meet the Interim People's Counsel Print E-mail

 

Image: Brenda Pennington, People's CounselOn March 11, 2010, Mayor Adrian Fenty selected Brenda K. Pennington as the Interim People’s Counsel for the Office of the People’s Counsel (“Office” or “OPC”) in the District of Columbia. 

 

Ms. Pennington joined the Office of the People’s Counsel in 2001, after 14 years of practicing telecommunications law.  As Supervisor for Telecommunications, she was responsible for managing the legal group that handles all telecommunications matters.  Ms. Pennington has also handled electric and gas matters at OPC.  In addition, she represented the National Association of State Utility Consumer Advocates on the Federal Communications Commissions’ Consumer Advisory Committee.  Further, she consistently attended consumer meetings and forums carrying out the mission of the Office to inform and educate the public with her unique ability to put in layman’s terms OPC’s position on complex legal matters.

 

Ms. Pennington began her career in 1988, at the D.C. Public Service Commission, after which she joined the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association as Regulatory and Legislative Counsel representing the wireless industry before Congress, and state and federal agencies.

 

Ms. Pennington received her undergraduate degree from Howard University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland.  She is a member of the District of Columbia Bar Association and Maryland State Bar Association.  She resides in Washington, DC with her family.
