Q. What is Economy II telephone service?
A. Economy II telephone service is a discounted telephone service for income eligible residents of the District of Columbia.
Q. Who provides Economy II?
A. Only Verizon-Washington, DC provides Economy II service in the District.
Q. Do I have to have phone service with Verizon before I get Economy II service?
A. Yes. You must be a Verizon customer.
Q. Who is eligible for Economy II?
A. Service is available only to consumers who qualify under the federal legal criteria for participation in the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.
Q. What are the rates for Economy II?
A. For eligible consumers under the age of 65, the rate is $3 a month. For eligible consumers 65 and older, the rate is $1 per month.
Q. How can I find out if I am qualified?
A. Contact the District's Department of the Environment's Energy Office at 202- 673-6750 to complete an application.
Q. Can I get other telephone features (i.e. call waiting, three-way calling, etc.) with Economy II?
A. Yes. You will, however, have to pay the full price for the additional services.
Q. Can I have an additional phone line in my home if I receive Economy II?
A. No. If you are receiving Economy II service, you cannot have another phone line.
Q. If someone is renting a room in my home, can they receive Economy II service?
A. Yes. A renter may be asked to show a lease to verify tenancy. Then he or she can receive Economy II service if and when they are deemed income eligible.
Q. Can I make long distance calls with Economy II service?
A. Yes.
Q. Can my Economy II service be disconnected for failing to pay for long distance service?
A. No. Economy II service cannot be interrupted or disconnected for failure to pay for long distance services.
Q. Can I have toll restrictions on my Economy II service?
A. Yes. A consumer receiving Economy II service can request toll blocking at no charge. |
